The sky above Gandhinagar University turned into a canvas of colors and laughter on Friday, 10th January 2025, as the university celebrated Uttarayan 18.0, its grand annual kite festival. The event, held on the sprawling lawns and open grounds of the campus, drew participation from every corner of the university — students, faculty, and even international learners came together to celebrate the spirit of unity, creativity, and festivity. True to Gujarat’s rich cultural heritage, the day was a perfect blend of tradition, fun, and community togetherness.
From early morning, the campus buzzed with excitement as hundreds of students gathered with vibrant kites, ready to paint the sky in hues of red, blue, yellow, and green. Laughter, music, and the sound of “Kai Po Che!” echoed across the grounds, capturing the joy of Uttarayan in its purest form. Students not only competed in friendly kite-flying duels but also displayed extraordinary creativity in the Kite Making Competition, where handmade kites — from eco-friendly paper designs to massive artistic creations — added an innovative twist to the event.

International students of Gandhinagar University were among the most enthusiastic participants. For many of them, it was their first experience of India’s iconic festival of kites, and they embraced it wholeheartedly, learning to fly traditional Indian kites and competing alongside local students. Their participation turned the event into a truly global celebration — proof of how Gandhinagar University continues to bridge cultures and create shared memories among its diverse community.
Faculty members too joined in, taking a well-deserved break from academics to enjoy the festive atmosphere. The sight of professors flying kites with their students, laughing and competing in good spirit, perfectly reflected the university’s culture of openness, joy, and mutual respect.
The highlight of Uttarayan 18.0 came with the special guest appearance of Siddharth Trivedi, the well-known stand-up comic and humorist popularly known as Sidsaaab. His hilarious anecdotes, witty observations, and sharp humor filled the stage with laughter and joy. Students and faculty were left in splits as Sidsaaab connected effortlessly with the young audience, reminding everyone that humor, like kites, lifts our spirits higher. His performance added a perfect dose of entertainment to a day already filled with color and cheer.
The festival concluded with a heartwarming award ceremony where winners of the Kite Making Competition were honored with trophies, certificates, and special mentions for creativity and innovation. As the sun set, the sky shimmered with the last few kites against the golden horizon, marking not just the end of a festival but the beginning of countless memories shared among friends, mentors, and guests.
Uttarayan 18.0 was more than just a celebration — it was a reminder of Gandhinagar University’s vibrant culture, where tradition meets innovation, and where every festival becomes a story of togetherness and joy.
